When are the Praxis Series Assessments Offered?

Please visit the ETS Praxis Website for up to date information on Praxis I and II registration and exam dates.

When should I plan to take the Praxis assessments?

The Praxis I assesses general knowledge in reading, writing, and math. It is also a College of Education selective admissions requirement and is typically taken during the freshman year. The Praxis II measures your knowledge of content, education methodology, and pedagogy in the subject you will be teaching. The Praxis II content exams typically are taken late in the Junior year. However, the questions for the Praxis II pedagogy exams are based on information taught during your education methods courses; consequently, this test usually is taken the semester prior to the student teaching component of the yearlong internship (Successful completion of the Praxis II is a requirement for admission to student teaching).

How do I register for the Praxis Series Assessments?

Detailed information regarding the Praxis Series Assessments, including registration procedures, costs, and Maryland qualifying scores, is available at the Educational Testing Service (ETS) website.

(NOTE: UM is a test site for the Praxis. Phone the CBT phone line on campus (301/314-0319) for registration information.)

How can I prepare for the Praxis I?

Check out the guidelines in Tips on How to Prepare for the Praxis Pre-Professional Skills Test.
