Principal Tips

November 10th, 2003 Ms Handelsman from James McHenry Elementary School shared several tips.
1. When looking for a job, seek administrative staff that shows positive interactions.
2. Check out the support systems in place for new teachers.
3. Don't judge schools by demographic area or building appearance.
4. Don't only consider standardized tests to judge your preferences.
5. Ask questions during the interview about the school, students and the community.

When you accept a job, Ms. Handelsman lists six Survival Tactics.
1. Accept constructive criticism from the principal.
2. Don't try to do everything your first year.
3. Stay away from gossip and negative staff members, even if times are tough.
4. Have your plans ready and on time and your grade book up to date.
5. If you feel you are having a problem with a parent or student, seek out the assistance of your administrators.
6. Find a good way to reduce stress.
