Executive Committee

What is the Executive Committee?

The Executive Committee consists of seven officers. In our Iota Upsilon Chapter, these seven positions are the Counselor, President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Historian, and the Foundation Representative. These officers are elected by the majority (see election section) and together, this committee coordinates the year's activities. Each member has their own duties, but together they strive to accomplish the chapter's goals.

Chapter Officers 2005
The current officers are filling a term from July 2005 until December 2005. Therefore elections will be held this October.

Chapter Counselor

The counselor serves as an advisor and provide encouragement and resources to enable the officers to fulfill their responsibilities. The counselor provides for the safekeeping and accessibility of records and properties of the chapter.
The counselor is a liaison between the chapter and the education department and faculty. As advisor of the chapter, the counselor must also ensure that the ritual of the Society is observed and that all required.
This position is not part of the election process.

President

The president presides over meetings of the chapter and Executive Committee, appoints committees subject to approval by the Executive Committee, and oversees the general operation of the chapter.

She is going into her senior year this fall.

Vice President
Jennifer Kaufman

The vice-president presides in the absence of the chapter president, assumes the duties of the president in case of a vacancy, and chairs the program committee. Therefore, the vice-president will ensure service and professional workshop activites exist in the chapter.

Treasurer
Kathy Coughlin
The treasurer is responsible for receiving dues from new initiates; making disbursements upon request of the Executive Committee; maintaining an accurate accounting of chapter finances; and safekeeping, in cooperation with the chapter counselor, of all chapter funds. In our chapter, the treasurer is also the delegate to write a member newsletter once a semester.

Secretary
Michelle Curcio

The secretary keeps the minutes of meetings of the chapter and Executive Committee, handles chapter communications as assigned by the Executive Committee, and maintains accurate records of the chapter membership.

Historian
Tiffany Larnick
The historian furnishes reports of chapter activities to the Society Headquarters and preserves the charter, documents, and historical records of the chapter.

Foundation Representative
Julie Gannon

The Foundation representative identifies fundraising activities for the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Foundation, and serves as liaison to the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Foundation. This means that this individual is responsible for notifying members about scholarships and grants available.

Membership Chair
Deirdre Burr

The Chair of the Membership Committee shall oversee the organization of each initiation ceremony, including the collection and submission of all forms.
This person must also facilitate recruitment of new members, including the organization and execution of the Orientation Meeting. They should also develop retention efforts, including member education.

Elections

Officers will fill positons for a year from January to December. These yearly elections must take place every Fall semester whether it is to fill vacant positions, or to re-elect current officers. This excludes the counselor position. These remaining seven positons; the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Historian, Foundation Representative and a Membership Chair should fill their obligations for a year. However, as needed, elections may be held in the Spring to fill vacant positions for a semester term. By having regular elections in the Fall rather than in the Spring, undergraduate members can fill yearly positions without interferring with their Student-Teaching semester.

The fall election process begins with nominations from current members for all six positions. Any member who is active in the chapter (chapter dues have been paid) is eligible to run for chapter office. On the day of election, only those present may vote, unless ballots were submitted before 4pm the day of the meeting via email or mail. All nominations should be included in the vote. If current officers would like to re-run for any position, they may add themself to the ballot. However, through private written ballots, a majority vote of active membership present is required for the election.

Once elected, an officer training meeting must take place. This is when the current officers and newly-elected officers can review together the responsibilities of the Executive committee so that the chapter remains stable. Intentionally, fall elections should take place two months before the term ends such as in early October. This way the newly elected officers will have the opportunity to "shadow" and attend current officer meetings before they take their positions.
