If an individual meets the criteria set out in our bylaws, they may fill out an application that is made available mid-February in the Student Services office (Benjamin 1204). Within a week, applications will be reviewed and those accepted will be notified. Near the end of the semester those accepted must attend an initiation ceremony. Read our membership page for more information.
The election process begins with nominations from current members for all seven positions. Any member who is active in the chapter (chapter dues have been paid) is eligible to run for chapter office. On the day of election, only those present may vote. All nominations should be included in the vote. If current officers would like to re-run for any position, they may add themself to the ballot. However, through private written ballots, a majority vote of active membership present is required for the election. Read the page about our Executive Committee for more information.
A member who wishes to remain active in KDP must attend every meeting during each semester. However, if you cannot attend the meeting due to work or class conflicts you can submit a lesson plan on the subject of your choice for distribution to the rest of the members. This keeps you active in KDP even if you cannot attend meetings. There are also other activities that you may participate in during the semester. The average member spends between 5 to 10 hours per month to remain active in KDP.

What does KDP do for me as a graduate?
Once initiated, Kappa Delta Pi benefits members for life. Beyond graduation, there are many reasons to stay a member.
First, Kappa Delta Pi is an ongoing community of support and professional development opportunities such as local, regional and international conferences.
National job postings and networks with the most prestigious educators such as State and National Teacher Award winners, and KDP's own Laureate Chapter.
Also, with continued discounts on award winning publications and Education related merchandise or services, member dues pay for themselves.
Scholarships and grants are not just for undergraduate students. Several graduate scholarships are available yearly as well as some teaching grants.
Seniors are more than welcome to apply if they meet the criteria necessary for membership. Since the initiation and graduation ceremony for Kappa Delta Pi will be held the same day, we will include you in both if you are accepted.
