Program Referral

In order to be considered for participation in the ACPS Transition Program, student applicants must meet the following criteria. At the time of application
students will:

 

  • have completed four years in a high school setting,
  • be working towards a Maryland High School Certificate,
  • take part in the graduation ceremony prior to beginning the Transition Program, or at the completion of the Transition Program,
  • be recommended for the Transition Program by the high school IEP team, and

Recommendation is based on the IEP Team’s determination that the student will be able to work independently at a job site, allowing job coaching to be minimal or faded

Recommendation is also based on the team’s determination that the student is seeking supported competitive employment upon completion of this program

Preference is given to the student whose social behaviors are such that transitioning to a university environment will be a positive social experience.

Preference is also given to the student who has had work experience, either school-based or community-based. The student must also have a written work evaluation completed by the teacher or work site supervisor.

 

Following the application, the student candidate will:

  • attend a MAPS (McGill Action Planning System) meeting with the family,
  • and participate in an IEP meeting to modify current goals and objectives as needed.
