"I could not be more honored professionally than to be appointed chair of one of the best psychometric programs in the world," said Hancock. "With this great honor comes great responsibility and I will work to ensure that our faculty remain at, and indeed continue to create, the frontiers of methodology, that our students receive the training necessary to become research leaders, and that the methodological developments we create and disseminate find their way to answering questions that matter within education and throughout the social sciences." A member of the college community since 1995, Hancock is currently Interim Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education, overseeing sponsored research and grants processes. He manages the promotion, tenure and post-tenure review processes, is responsible for the college awards program, and oversees faculty relations and graduate education issues. In addition, he is director of the Center for Integrated Latent Variable Research (CILVR), and an affiliated faculty member of the Department of Human Development's Educational Psychology Program as well as the University of Maryland's Center for Advanced Study of Language. Hancock attended the University of Washington where he earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics and chemistry, as well as his master's and doctoral degrees in statistics, measurement, and research.
