FREE registration for College faculty, staff and students
COLLEGE PARK, MD (October 2007) On Thursday, Oct. 11, policymakers from the state and federal level, as well as researchers and practitioners from the K-12 and postsecondary levels will gather in Washington, D.C., for a National Capitol Summit on Latino Students and Educational Opportunity hosted by the University of Maryland College of Education and the Educational Policy Institute—a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding educational opportunity for low-income and other historically-underrepresented students through high-level research and analysis.
Coinciding with the University’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Summit is designed to highlight and recognize the important issues related to the expansion of educational opportunity for the nation’s fastest growing constituency. The focus of the event will be the academic preparation and postsecondary access and success of Hispanic-Latino students.
Hosted at the Hyatt hotel on Capitol Square, the Summit is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with an opening keynote address and will conclude at 5 p.m. Registration is FREE for all College of Education faculty staff and students interested in attending. To register, contact Diane Marques (Department of Education Leadership, Higher Education, and International Education), at 301.405.3589, or email diane@umd.edu.
