Carl E. Anderson, Ed.D., honored with President's Award

COLLEGE PARK, MD (March 2006)College of Education Alumni Chapter Vice-President Carl E. Anderson, Ed.D., was one of five individuals honored on Feb. 22 at the Presidents Volunteer Service Awards Ceremony hosted at the White House.
Held in commemoration of the 80th celebration of African American History Month, attendees of the ceremony included Vice President Dick Cheney and civil rights pioneer, Dorothy Height. As noted in President George Bushs remarks that day, "The Presidents Volunteer Service Award is the highest level of commendation a President can give in recognition of those who have contributed their time and their talent and their energy to helping others."
Anderson was commended for his work with the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity's Alumni Chapter in Washington D.C. He was among the chapters founders, and served for 10 years as president of the Kappa Scholarship Endowment Funda scholarship program for deserving seniors in financial need attending public high schools in the District. More than 300 scholarships have been funded in part from proceeds of the annual Celebrity Auction and Soul Food Feast, an event Anderson has chaired for the past 22 years.
Anderson is Vice President Emeritus for Student Affairs at Howard University. He earned his Ed.D. in student personnel administration from the College of Education. Among his many honors, he has been recognized by the University of Maryland Alumni Association with the 2003 College of Education Distinguished Alumnus Award.
