Phi Delta Kappa plans Nov. 12 "Walk for Education"
on the University of Maryland campus

Walkers will visit former locations of the College of Education from 1920 to present

COLLEGE PARK, MD (Nov. 7, 2005) - Since 1920, the College of Education's programs and departments have been housed among 20 sites on the University of Maryland campus, with many of the buildings still standing today.

The College of Education's chapter of Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) is sponsoring a "Walk For Education" tour featuring many of the locations on Saturday, Nov. 12. Edna Mora Szymanski, Dean of the College of Education, and Associate Dean Donna Wiseman will lead the tour and stop to describe points of interest during the two-mile walk, sponsored by Phi Delta Kappa.

Walkers will gather at 9:45 a.m. in Parking Lot AA, next to the Benjamin Building, and the walk will begin at 10 a.m. Free parking is available in Lot AA on Saturdays. Participants will follow an annotated map with a handout depicting many of the sites on campus related to the history of the college, founded in 1920, and the University of Maryland, which is commemorating its 150th anniversary through September 2006.

The cost to participate in the Walk for Education is $10. Proceeds will go to the PDK Educational Foundation and the University of Maryland PDK Scholarship Fund. Walkers are asked to e-mail ed.walk@hotmail.com by Nov. 9 to register, and should bring their donation with them that morning. (Checks should be made payable to "University of Maryland - PDK".) The walk is open to current and prospective PDK members, faculty, staff and students. The chapter hopes to expand awareness and understanding about PDK programs and support its scholarship fund.

If you cannot participate in the walk, but would like to make a gift to the chapter, please send donations by mail to: Phi Delta Kappa, University of Maryland Chapter, P.O. Box 1395, Ellicott City, MD., 21041-1395.
