Faculty/Staff Fulbright Award
University of Maryland faculty and staff planning to apply for awards through the traditional Fulbright program for scholars and professionals are reminded that AUGUST 1, 2008 is the application deadline for most 2009-10 AY awards. Comparative and International Education Society (CIES)/Fulbright strongly encourages prospective applicants to contact the Program Officer for the award in question. International Education Services (IES) is organizing an Opening Fair at the beginning of International Student Orientation for all newly arriving international students, graduate and undergraduate, to the University of Maryland. All student organizations are invited to take advantage of this excellent opportunity to connect with new international students and share the activities of your student organization by having a table on behalf of your organization during this fair. There is no cost, but table space must be reserved in advance. For reservations and/or questions, contact Sue Hoffman. Reservation deadline is Aug. 1, 2008.

Future of High School Mathematics Conference

The College of Education's Center for Mathematics Education will co-host a conference in Washington, D.C., focusing on the future of high school mathematics. The event will address national questions on curriculum, teaching, and assessment in high school mathematics, and the challenges of teacher professional development required to achieve improved results. The conference is open to anyone with interest in the content, teaching, and assessment of high school mathematics. Registration fee is $250 (includes a reception, breakfast and lunch, and lodging in the conference hotel as needed for two days). Early registration is encouraged.
