Appointments:
Kerry Ann O'Meara
Assoc. Professor Kerry Ann O'Meara (Education Leadership, Higher Educ. & Int'l Educ.) was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors for the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE).

A non-profit organization, IARSLCE is devoted to advancing the fields of service-learning and community engagement research across the educational spectrum (i.e., primary, secondary, post-secondary, and further education).
 
Awards and Recognitions:
Asst. Director Janis Cornell-DeMoss (Student Services) was named the 2009 Provost's Professional Academic Advisor of the Year. The award is presented to individuals who demonstrate attitudes and behaviors that constitute excellent academic advising including, accessibility/availability, outstanding communication skills, mastery of university policies and procedures, student advocacy, collaboration, and dedication. Cornell-DeMoss will be recognized on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, during the 14th Annual Undergraduate Studies Advising Conference at the Art-Sociology Building.

Melanie Killen
Professor Melanie Killen (Human Development) received an honorable mention for the 2009 Otto Klineberg Intercultural and International Relations Prize as co-editor of the book, Intergroup Attitudes and Relations in Childhood through Adulthood

The publication focuses on "how individuals make judgments, and interact with individuals from different group categories, broadly defined in terms of gender, race, age, culture, religion, sexual orientation, and body type."

Members of the spring 2009 CSP (College Student Personnel) Student Leadership class, taught by Professor Susan Komives (Counseling and Personnel Services), have published a new textbook for undergraduate students that explores the Social Change Model of Leadership Development.
