In addition to the Center’s research and instructional programs, faculty and students participate in a number of important outreach efforts. Students and faculty have consulted with the Baltimore-based Fund For Educational Excellence to support their efforts to reform secondary mathematics in the Baltimore City Public School System.

Mathematics education faculty and fellows are also working with Professional Development School (PDS) staff to establish PDS’s where a concentration of mathematics education interns can work collaboratively with the school faculty to impact mathematics instruction in the school.

Faculty work with Prince George’s County Public Schools has continued through involvement with the College’s Bladensburg Project, and we anticipate further work with this district under the renewal of the Mac-MTL renewal.

Most recently, mathematics education faculty have joined with University faculty in the Department of Mathematics and with mathematics specialists from Montgomery County Public Schools to define a cohort master's degree program for those elementary certified teachers who teach algebra at the middle school level. This program began in the summer of 2005 and is offered at the Shady Grove campus of the University of Maryland.
