Profile Dr. Slater's academic training is in cognitive
psychology, linguistics, reading, composition theory, and research
methodology. His research
publications have appeared in the Journal of Educational Psychology,
Reading Research Quarterly, and Research in the Teaching of
English. Current research is focused on the structure of
argument and more specifically, the saliency of the biased assimilation
effect when readers attempt to resolve conflicting information in
