CENTER for
MATHEMATICS EDUCATION
Ambitious plans for reform in school mathematics
have come at a time of critical shortage in all aspects of the
personnel infrastructure for mathematics education. The national
corps of doctoral level mathematics curriculum leaders, teacher
educators, and educational researchers is being depleted rapidly
by retirements. Qualified mathematics teachers are in demand
at every level of K-12 education.

READING CENTER
The Reading Center is a unit within the Department
of Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Maryland.
The center offers graduate degrees in reading education leading
to reading specialist certification and to positions as teachers
and researchers at institutions of higher education.

SCIENCE
TEACHING CENTER
The Science Teaching Center is a unit within
the Department of Curriculum & Instruction in the University
of Maryland College of Education. We provide courses for the
professional study of science education in both formal and non-formal
settings and at levels from elementary through university. We
offer degree programs in instructional practice toward Maryland
State teacher certification in biology, chemistry, physics,
and earth/space science. We also offer degree programs in science
education research, toward a variety of careers in science education.
