Welcome to the Building Learning with Technology
Netscape Composer Tutorial

This tutorial was not created to be a stand-alone product. For the best results we recommend having both a copy of Netscape Composer and this tutorial running at the same time. This will allow you to receive help from us as you explore Composer.

We have written this tutorial for use with the version of Netscape Composer that comes accompanying Netscape Communicator 4.7. In some instances this version of Composer will be different from older versions of the same software, however we have attempted to make general references in this tutorial so that all users may benefit. If older versions are not exactly the same as Communicator 4.7's Composer you should not have too much difficulty in navigating using directions for this newer version.

In other words, if things don't look exactly the same on your screen, don't worry! You should be able to accomplish the same things we do with a little investigation on your part.

Further, this tutorial was created for use with the PC-compatible computer in mind. Macintosh users may find some differences between this tutorial and your Macintosh version of Communicator. These users will find that most of the options we talk about in this tutorial are possible but may not look the same as we present on these pages. Important note for Macintosh users.

We did not design this tutorial to be a linear learning environment. The "Table of Contents," located at the left of this page, allows you to skip those parts of the program that you already feel comfortable with. If you already understand how to insert text into a Word document you do not need to waste your time reading how to do it again here. For those of you that would like to take this tutorial step by step, there is a "Next" button at the end of every page that will take you to the next page in the tutorial.

Good luck, have fun, and most of all, do not be afraid to play with Composer. We have covered most of the basics for creating an effective web page, but we do not have space to cover all of the wonderful tools that Composer comes with. Try new buttons and shortcuts to see what happens.

Click the arrow to start the tutorial or pick a page from the "Table of Contents" at the left of the screen.
