Using "Gradient, Texture, Pattern, Picture"

PowerPoint allows you to create a solid color background as well as a number of different background effects. By choosing "Format"  "Background," then choosing "Fill Effects" from the color pull down menu you can manipulate the available background effects. This is shown below:

This image will appear after you choose "Fill Effects" from the color menu. Clicking on the various tabs at the top of this box will allow for more background choices.
