Literacy, Language and Culture The newly formed Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership is the merger of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, the Department of Education Policy Studies and the program in Organizational Leadership and Policy Studies, formerly in the Department of Leadership, International, and Higher Education.

Within the department, we have organized into academic divisions. Division of Language, Literacy, Culture and Social Inquiry has been created to focus on these academic areas and to assist you in locating related links and resources more easily.

Faculty News

Dr. Jennifer Turner, received the Edward Fry Book Award from the Literacy Research Association. Jennifer and her co-authors won this prestigious award for their book, Change is Gonna Come: Transforming Literacy Education for African American Students (2010). The book is jointly published by Teachers College Press and the International Reading Association. Global Graduate Fellows

McNair Fellowship Recipient:
Nana Afua Yeboaa Brantuo (MUE; incoming PhD student, 2012-2013)

Brie Doyle, a doctoral student in reading education, was selected as a Global Graduate Fellow for the 2011-12 academic year. The Global Graduate Fellows come from a variety of programs in the College of Education, and the program complements the Global Awareness in Teacher Education (GATE) Fellows for faculty. This program is directed by Dr. Jim Greenberg and Dr. Letitia Williams in the Office of International Initiatives in the College of Education.
