Award Committee Criteria

COLLEGE TEACHING AWARD

Criteria for excellence in teaching are based on:

  • Student evaluation of teaching (quantitative and/or qualitative);
  • Chairing or mentoring students who have successfully attained undergraduate or advanced degrees;
  • Innovative methodology, e.g., application of technology to learning, distance education, attention to affective domain, cooperative learning;
  • Peer review of teaching;
  • Creation of teaching materials (syllabus, computer software, overhead, novel approaches);
  • Other quality indicators of outstanding teaching.

 

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Criteria for outstanding scholarship are based on:

  • Publications in prestigious, refereed journals;
  • Publication of books with prestigious publishers;
  • Significant research grant funding;
  • Presentations at major conventions or meetings;
  • Chapters in books.

 

COLLEGE LEADERSHIP AWARD

The nominee should be a current member of the College of Education faculty. The recipient of this award will be a member of the community with an exemplary record of sustained and acknowledged contribution to the quality of life in the College. The candidate’s accomplishments should be distinguished by a dedication to the fulfillment of the College’s goals and mission, such as; supporting, refining, and/or extending the programmatic structures of the College; professional accomplishments that contribute to the direction and climate of the College; and /or by university service that fosters closer connections between the College and the larger university.

Winner of this award is going to be decided by the Dean

COLLEGE SERVICE AWARD

Criteria for outstanding service are based on:

  • Outstanding service provided to K-12 or to local, state, federal, and/or international agencies;
  • Service to the college and the university community;
  • Service to professional associations.

 

COLLEGE STAFF AWARD — FOR EXEMPT STAFF

There is no time limit with respect to employment in the College;

All nominations should describe with examples the nominee’s qualification for the award; letters of support from other people who know the nominee(s) and are familiar with their work should be submitted as part of the nomination.

Criteria:

  • Exceptional contributions to work within the College;
  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership in managing staff and/or resources;
  • Individual performance must have exceeded job requirements;
  • Outstanding personal qualities:

Positive rapport with all levels of staff, both within and outside the College;

Demonstrates initiative;

Exemplary attitude.

COLLEGE STAFF AWARD — FOR NON-EXEMPT STAFF

COLLEGE OUTSTANDING DOCTORAL STUDENT AWARD

Criteria for selection includes demonstrated exceptional performance and potential that may include the following: teaching, scholarship, leadership, service, and potential to make a contribution to their field of study.

COLLEGE OUTSTANDING MASTER’S STUDENT AWARD

Criteria for selection includes demonstrated exceptional performance and potential that may include the following: teaching, scholarship, leadership, service, and potential to make a contribution to their field of study.

COLLEGE OUTSTANDING UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT AWARD
(This process will be managed by Kathleen Angeletti.)

Criteria for excellence may include the following: Excellence in academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and service, and potential to make a contribution to their field of study.

COLLEGE EXCELLENCE IN GRADUATE MENTORING AWARD (Tenure Track Faculty)

Eligibility: Tenured or tenure-track faculty who have been employed in the College of Education for at least 3 years.

The criteria include: Evidence of commitment to excellence in the mentoring of graduate students, including their academic and professional development.

COLLEGE EXCELLENCE IN FACULTY MENTORING AWARD (Tenured Faculty)

Eligibility:  Tenured faculty in the College of Education.

The criteria include: Evidence of commitment to excellence in the mentoring and professional development of tenure- track and / or tenured faculty.

COLLEGE DISTINGUISHED OUTREACH AWARD

The criteria include: Evidence of having developed and sustained partnerships with schools, community organizations, community colleges, teacher and parent organizations, and/or state education organizations.
