PROCEDURE

* Apply to the Ph.D. program in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction. Stage 1 is an online application you must complete by January 15. Then you will be emailed instructions about stage 2, electronic submission of a writing sample and other supporting materials. It is OK if stage 2 isn't complete until after January 15, but please do so -- and please get your transcripts and GRE scores to Maryland -- as soon as possible. We encourage you to get letters of recommendation, too; they can be submitted electronically or by hard copy.

* If your science field is physics, you may choose instead to apply to the Department of Physics. If you are unsure which department makes more sense for you, contact David Hammer.

* Download and complete the DESEP fellowship application and return it by email to Andy Elby by January 15. You can do this before your graduate-school application is fully processed.
Application overview
Applying to this program is mostly a matter of applying to graduate school at the University of Maryland. In addition, you must complete a short fellowship application specific to this program.
