ETS Welcome Back - Fall 2017!

Emailed on August 31, 2017

Dear COE Community,

To those who have been away for the summer months, and to all new hires, welcome and welcome back!  I wanted to share some news and reminders regarding ETS services.

First, we are excited to be welcoming back one of our own.   As many of you know, our desktop technician, Ron Yerby, has been out for over five months.  It has been hectic during that period, and we have been grateful for Joe Robertson's additional assistance, as well as the help of our newly hired GA, Radhika Pai.  Ron returns on Tuesday, September 5, and begins easing back into the position.  It will be great to get back to more support as the semester kicks in.

I also want to remind all faculty and staff that we have made some changes to two other roles over the past year.

Our Learning Technology Specialist, Rosalia Reyes-Webb (x50309, rosalia5@umd.edu), has been working with more faculty on transitioning courses to an online presence, including hybrid and fully online models.  She has been adding more instructional design to her training and support, and is available by appointment to sit with you to assist.  She also offers the majority of our monthly brown-bags (the third Wednesday of each month), and the next announcement of the September offering on 9/20 will come out early next week.

Finally, our Web Specialist, Rochella McKoy (x53617, rmckoy@umd.edu), is becoming a Drupal expert.  With the pending launch of the new COE website, we will be fully immersed in the Drupal Content Management System (CMS) environment.  ETS has been working closely assisting the Communications Office in the development and support of the new site.  The College will not only have an entirely new look to the web presence, but content editing will be much more accessible down to the department, lab, and unit level.  Rochella will be the point of contact for training in the new system, troubleshooting, and account management.

There have been many additional projects over the summer, including an upgrade to the technology in our General Purpose Classrooms.  Please contact our student staffed Technology Desk (room 0234, x53611) for assistance or training in the new operation.

Thank you, and please let me know if you have any questions.
