Elementary Special Education
The major goal of the specialty
area in Elementary Special Education is to prepare professionals to work
with children with disabilities in grades one through six. This includes
children with:
learning
disabilities
developmental
delays
emotional/behavioral
disabilities
mental retardation
attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder
severe disabilities
physical
and other health impairments
Students in the program develop
the skills needed to:
assess the
academic and social strengths and limitations of children
organize
learning environments that are designed to meet individual needs
plan, implement,
and evaluate instruction
foster participation
in the general education curriculum
