Elementary Special Education


The major goal of the specialty area in Elementary Special Education is to prepare professionals to work with children with disabilities in grades one through six. This includes children with:

red arrow learning disabilities red arrow developmental delays
red arrow emotional/behavioral disabilities red arrow mental retardation
red arrow attention deficit hyperactivity disorder red arrow severe disabilities
red arrow physical and other health impairments

Students in the program develop the skills needed to:

red arrow assess the academic and social strengths and limitations of children red arrow organize learning environments that are designed to meet individual needs
red arrow plan, implement, and evaluate instruction red arrow foster participation in the general education curriculum
