How To Apply
To be considered for admission to the Department of Education Policy Studies at the University of Maryland each applicant must submit an online application and supplemental materials directly to the Graduate School. Almost all components of the application are submitted electronically. You will be asked to complete an Application Supplemental Form (ASF) and given instructions to log onto the MEGS/Apra site once you have submitted your online application. Documents such as recommendation letters and writing samples can be uploaded on this site as attachments.
Application Materials Needed for Admission to EDPS

All application materials are sent to the Graduate School (address below). The online application contains all forms necessary to apply.
Application fee: The non-refundable application fee is $60.00. If you did not process your fee payment online via the on-line application you may send it to the Enrollment Services Office using the Credit Card/International Check form.
Transcripts: One complete set of transcripts reflecting all undergraduate and graduate work completed or in progress must be submitted as part of application materials. Each transcript must bear the signature of the registrar and the seal of the granting institution and should include the years of attendance, courses taken, grades received, class standing and the degree, certificate or diploma received. If the applicant attended the University of Maryland, College Park, the Graduate School will obtain your records of courses completed on the College Park campus. To facilitate the processing and review of an application, unofficial copies of transcripts from institutions other than the University of Maryland, College Park may be used for review processes. Official copies of those transcripts, however, are required before full admission can be granted.
Proof of Maryland Residency: Please complete and submit a Maryland In-State Status Form (part of the online application) if you wish to apply for Maryland resident status.
Letters of Recommendation: Please submit three letters of recommendation from professors or others who can assess the quality of your academic performance and scholastic potential. Letters of recommendation should, when at all possible, be submitted online via the MEGS/Apra system as part of your Application Supplemental Form (ASF).
Statement of Goals, Experiences, and Research Interests: Applicants must submit a statement of their goals, experiences and objectives in pursuing graduate study. This can be submitted as part of your online application or uploaded through the APRA system after online application has been submitted.
Standardized Test Scores: Applicants are required to submit scores of standardized examinations of either the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) OR the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). Examination scores should be sent to the University via the testing authority. The University of Maryland, College Park institutional code for the GRE is 5814 and the code for the MAT is 4213. If your scores are older than 5 years, a hard copy can be sent directly to the Graduate School.

Writing sample: Applicants to ALL doctoral programs must submit a sample of the applicant's academic or professional writing that provides evidence of ability to consider and write about complex ideas. Writing samples should be uploaded as attachments if possible as part of the Application Supplemental Form (ASF).
A completed online application: The Online Application is the first part of the application process. When completing your online application, all your application materials must have the correct Major/Program and Program Code as follows: Select Education Policy Studies - EDPS.
