"Our three areas of specialization offer graduate students an array of courses to develop programs tailored to their interests."

Welcome to the EDPS portion of the newly formed Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership!

UMDThe Department of Education Policy Studies has recently merged with other departments within the College of Education to form the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership. Now, Education Policy Studies joins with the former Department of Curriculum and Instruction and the Organizational Leadership and Policy Studies Program, formerly in the The Department of Education Leadership, Higher Education and International Education.

These former departments and programs are now combining resources for a more dynamic organization within the College of Education. The specialized areas of Curriculum Theory and Development, Socio-Cultural Foundations of Education, and Education Policy will remain within the web domain of EDPS (www.education.umd.edu/EDPS/) while we are transitioning to the newly formed, Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership.

Education Policy Studies (EDPS) encourages thoughtful and responsive explorations of education policies, practices and related social issues. Graduate students are prepared to create and critique alternative courses of action to enhance the quality of education for all persons and to redress the social conditions that restrict collective democratic aspirations.

Please explore the EDPS portion of our web site to find more information about our programs, faculty, students, research and outreach. As we continue to grow, so will our Web site. I hope our enthusiasm is captured in the possibilities we envision for our work together and the endless opportunities that new beginnings allow in an intellectual community of like minded scholars.
