Teaching and Research Interests
Dr. Cossentino offers courses in instructional improvement and qualitative research methods. Both her teaching and research draw from policy studies, organizational, leadership and curriculum theory, and teacher thinking. She is interested in issues of school reform writ large, including the multiple venues in which it occurs (schools, universities, museums) and the various entities that may act as agents of change (principals and superintendents, policy-makers, scholars, and teachers). Her current research centers on teachers' experience of reform with special emphasis on their role as interpreters of policy and architects of change. Prior to joining the EDPL faculty, Dr. Cossentino was Instructor in Teacher Education at Ohio University, where she taught courses in curriculum theory, teaching processes, and qualitative research methods. She has been a high school and middle school humanities teacher and administrator, a museum educator, and the director of a partnership between the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and a local K-12 school.
