Current Studies: Temperament Over Time Study (T.O.T.S): This project is a large longitudinal study investigating the individual and environmental factors associated with social development from infancy through childhood. TOTS primarily explores how infant temperament relates to later child outcomes and what factors may help or hinder the developmental pathway to social competence. Specifically, the development of regulated social behavior in the young child is thought to result from three factors: the child's temperament; the child's developing cognitive and attention skills necessary for regulating their temperament; and aspects of the environment that affect children of different temperaments. We have been seeing many of the children since they were 2-years of age and some of the children we have been seeing since they were infants! Currently, we are finishing up the 5-year visit and beginning the 7-year visit. A BIG thank you goes out to all of the families that have helped make this project possible over the years! This study is funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (HD#17899) and by a MERIT award (4R37HD017899-21) from NICHD. Principal Investigator: Nathan A.
