Academic Advising
Students are assigned an academic advisor upon admission to
the program. Working closely with the student, the advisor assists
with course scheduling and is responsible for approving and
supervising the student's clinical work and research competency.
Early in the program the student, in conjunction with the advisor,
develops a plan for completing graduation requirements. It is
the student's responsibility to meet deadlines set by the CAPS
Department and the Graduate School. The guidelines are published
each semester and are rigidly adhered to by both the department
and the Graduate School. The rehabilitation counselor works
with the individual within the context of the counseling relationship,
integrating and managing the many facets of the rehabilitation
process. The key
areas of competency are counseling, assessment, case management,
client advocacy, and job analysis, placement, and restructuring.
