  Doctoral Degree Courses and Sequence

The doctoral Program is a vertically integrated sequence of coursework and fieldwork experiences that subsumes the entire specialist-level curriculum (required for credentialing by the Maryland State Department of Education) and additional work in psychological foundations, statistics, direct interventions, student-chosen electives, pre-internship fieldwork, and the pre-doctoral internship. Upon completion of the specialist-level requirements, students are awarded a Masters degree as they continue to work toward the Ph.D. Upon completion of the pre-doctoral internship students can earn the Advanced Graduate Specialist Certificate (AGS) and become eligible for full certification by the Maryland State Department of Education as a School Psychologist. Upon completion of all Program requirements, including dissertation, students earn the Ph.D. degree, and are eligible for licensure. The Program typically requires four years of full-time, graduate study in coursework and fieldwork prior to the pre-doctoral internship. Students are strongly encouraged to begin dissertation work prior to beginning internship.

Consistent with the Program's training model, coursework, research experiences, and fieldwork are ordered to allow for sequential development of competencies, and integrated to stress the theme of integrating practice and research
