Professional Biography:


William G. Holliday is Professor at the University of Maryland, earlier at the University of Calgary, Canada. He served as executive secretary and later as president of the National Association for Research in Science Teaching. He has an earned B.S. and M.S. in biological sciences from Purdue University and a Ph.D. in science education from the University of Texas at Austin. His research interests include reading, studying and textbook-based programs in science education, balancing implicit and explicit approaches to science teaching inquiry, and assessing influential studies and theories about science learning. He has first-authored 12 experimental-based articles during the past 22 years in the Journal of Research in Science Teaching, for example. His practitioner efforts include research-based publishing in NSTA’s four regular periodicals.
