Graduate Studies in Music Education
Over the years the undergraduate and graduate Music Education programs
have grown to a position of national prominence. In addition to
an outstanding Music Education faculty, a Music faculty with expertise
in Musicology/Ethnomusicology, Theory, Composition, Conducting,
and Performance is available with whom the students have the opportunity
to study and excel. The Music Education faculty includes nationally
recognized specialists in general music, choral, band and string
education. The degree emphasizes musicianship, research, and advanced
instructional methods. Doctoral students pursuing the Ph. D. degree
must possess successful teaching experience and show evidence of
musicianship. Applicants interested in the Master of Music (Music
Education) or a Master of Arts (Music Education) degree should apply
directly to the School
of Music.
The University Libraries house a unique Special Collections in Performing
Arts in the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library, which includes
archival documents from the Music Educators National Conference,
the International Society for Music Education, the American Bandmasters
Association, the National Association of College Wind and Percussion
Instructors, and the International Clarinet Society.
