Application
Program Qualifications:
While a diverse range of applicants is accepts annually into the program,
generally, applicants should minimally have a 3.0 overall GPA and 3.0
GPA in the teaching major. Applicants who do not meet this requirement
are still encouraged to apply as applicants are considered based on grades,
professional experiences, and outlook about teaching.
Coursework
The following coursework is needed in order to be eligible for the specific secondary education programs. Please complete the template (word doc), using your own transcript(s). Save this form as you will need it again when you apply. If you would like to have your transcript reviewed, please contact the EDCI Advising Office

Application Deadline:
The preferred application deadline for the Masters Certification program
is December 1st; however, the FINAL deadline is March 1st. Supporting
documents should be submitted than April 1st as well.
Application Procedures:
The University of Maryland strongly encourages all eligible applicants
to apply on-line at http://www.gradschool.umd.edu/gss/admission.htm
. However, if for some reason you cannot complete the Online Application,
you may also download an Adobe PDF document version of the application
booklet.
The College of Education requires applicants to submit an additional
application called the Application Supplemental Form (ASF). Applicants
will be contacted via email after submitting the University's Online
Application. A system-assigned login and password will be provided at
that time. In most cases, students will be contacted within 2-4 business
days of submitting their Online Application.
Tests
Please note, the GRE is not required for admission to the Masters
Certification Program. However, must submit passing Praxis I and the
Praxis II (content knowledge) PRIOR to beginning the program. It is
preferred that applicants pass these tests prior to application. If
not, and you are admitted, you will be given provisional admission to
meet this requirement prior to the start of the program.
Supporting Documentation to Include in Application
Since this is a special program, it is important that you note MMCP
on your application and supporting documents:
- Campus is College Park (However, this program meets at the Shady
Grove Campus)
- Institution is University of Maryland, College Park
- Degree desired is M.Ed.
- Desired semester is Summer Session I
- The Major/Program is Curriculum and Instruction.
- The four-letter code is EDCI
- Area of specialization is either MMCP - Elementary
OR MMCP Secondary Education (If you are secondary ed, please also
indicate your content area i.e. math, biology, chemistry, earth space
science, art, social studies, English, Spanish, French, etc.)
- Applicants for Elementary Education will also need to satisfy a
mathematics requirement .
- Applicants for Secondary fields should have an undergraduate degree
in relevant disciplines (see Coursework
) disciplines.
