The Maryland Master's Certification Program (MMCP): Research Papers

In lieu of a thesis, you will develop a seminar paper. This seminar paper will use action research methodology to study your own teaching. Coursework will guide you through the entire research process. You will also be required to give an oral presentation of your study to a professional audience.

Some topics chosen by the previous cohort included: Teaching multicultural issues in a first grade classroom; understanding student participation in a middle school social studies classroom, creating community in high school science classroom; supporting mathematical reasoning and collaboration; creating and enacting a feminist curriculum in an 11th grade honors English class, using primary source documents in the high school history classroom; the journey towards a student-centered pedagogy: research and reflections of a student teacher in secondary science, discussing literature in the Spanish classroom; sustaining student interest in an eighth grade mathematics classroom; using journals in the science classroom; Teaching for conceptual understanding in an elementary school mathematics classroom.
