Second Language Education & Culture (SLEC) Masters Program
The Master’s of Education degree in TESOL with Maryland K-12 ESOL Certification is designed for students who have earned a bachelor's degree in any subject matter, and wish to become certified as teachers of English to speakers of other languages for elementary, middle and high school students in Maryland. This degree consists of 42 credits (36 hours of coursework and 6 hours of field experience). |

The SLEC specialty is recommended for students who wish to develop expertise in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) both in the U.S. and internationally. The master's degree prepares students to engage with research, theory and pedagogical practice in the field of TESOL. This degree does not lead to certification to teach in public schools in the US. All M.Ed. students must complete 30 credit hours total. |

This M.Ed. program part of the EDCI teacher leadership program and is intended for students who are practicing teachers in local schools. All M.Ed. students must complete 30 credit hours total. Students must take one course in each of the 5 areas of the EDCI core (15 credits). In addition, SLEC/TESOL M.Ed. students are required to take 15 credits within the SLEC specialty. |

The M. Ed. degree in Foreign Language Education assumes that the candidate already holds an undergraduate double major with certification (Secondary Education and one of the following foreign languages: French, German, Russian, Spanish, Latin, or Italian). MCERT (Maryland Graduate Certification Program) for TESOL is an alternative teacher education program for individuals who have completed a baccalaureate degree and intend to teach at the K-12 level. The MCERT program is a 13-month, full time program that leads to a Master’s of Education (M.Ed) degree as well as eligibility for Maryland State certification to teach in elementary or secondary schools. |

NEW: Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Foreign Language Education in Chinese |
This option provides an opportunity for candidates with baccalaureate degrees to complete just the requirements for certification in foreign language education - Chinese.
