Program Overview
The focus of the interdisciplinary doctoral program in Second Language Education and Culture is research in many areas of teaching, learning, and assessment in any of the following:
Bilingual Education
English as a Second Language (ESL)
English as a Foreign Language (EFL)
English as an International Language (EIL)
World Englishes
other world languages, such as (but not limited to) Spanish, French, German, Russian, Italian, Latin, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and Arabic classical languages, such as Latin and ancient Greek

Ph.D. Comprehensive Examination Procedure

The examination will be a literature review with theoretical framework with topic proposed by the student and approved
by the advisor -
The student will recruit three readers, two from SLEC faculty, one external with the agreement of the advisor

The student will have three weeks to complete the examination from the time the topic and readers have been formalized

The grading rubric will be provided to the student by the advisor during initial topic selection

The examination will be taken in the academic semester (excluding summer sessions) following completion of 36 credit hours in the program
