Teacher Certification and Development (CCLTCD)
Background
The Center was founded by the the College of Education of the University of Maryland and the Confucius Institute at Maryland (CIM) in September, 2009 through a grant funded by Hanban, the Office of the Chinese Language Council International.
Information for Prospective Students about the Chinese Language Teacher Certification Options in the College of Education
Chinese language teacher certification is of great interest to the Center, which helps the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education, to stimulate interest and enrollment in the state-approved Chinese language teacher certification options available in the department. In order to teach Chinese in elementary and secondary public shools in the State of Maryland, teachers must be certified by the State. Because of the different available routes to certification, students with various backgrounds can enroll. Undergraduates can choose to graduate with a certification for teaching Chinese or can enroll in a five-year program leading to a master’s degree with certification for teaching Chinese. Graduate students can take a full-time, intensive, one-year program or choose to attend part-time. Students not interested in a graduate degree can enroll in an option that offers certification only.
Mission of the Center

The mission of the Center for Chinese Language Teacher Certification and Development is to set a national and international standard of excellence for Chinese language teacher preparation, certification, and further development.
Our Goals:
* To enhance the teacher preparation and further development of ever greater numbers of excellent teachers in Chinese language and culture

* To interest the campus and the community in Chinese language teaching and learning through events, exhibitions, workshops, and seminars.
