Curriculum and Instruction
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction has recently merged with other departments within the College of Education to form the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership. In addition to the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, the Department of Education Policy Studies and the program in Organizational Leadership and Policy Studies, formerly in the Department of Leadership, International, and Higher Education are now combining resources for a more dynamic organization within the College of Education.
Teacher certification, instructional research and curriculum development resources and links will remain within this site while the process of our merger continues. Please consult our new departmental web site (http://www.education.umd.edu/TLPL/ ) for the latest updated information.

COE Faculty Member Chauncey Monte-Sano Receives
Early Career Award from AERACOLLEGE PARK, MD (February 2011) – One of the most prominent international professional organizations in the field of education will honor Assistant Professor Chauncey Monte-Sano in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Monte-Sano has been named the recipient of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Division K Early Career Award. Division K within AERA focuses on Teachers and Teacher Education. EDCI Associate Professor Patricia Campbell honored with Hay Award
The Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) presented the Twenty-First Annual Louise Hay Award to Patricia Campbell, associate professor of mathematics education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Maryland, at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in New Orleans, LA. Established in 1991, the Hay Award recognizes outstanding achievements in any area of mathematics education. Louise Hay was widely recognized for her contributions to mathematical logic, for her strong leadership as Head of the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago, for her devotion to students, and for her lifelong commitment to nurturing the talent of young women and men. The annual presentation of this award is intended to highlight the importance of mathematics education and to evoke the memory of all that Hay exemplified as a teacher, scholar, administrator, and human being.
