Program:
Autism
Spectrum Disorders
The Department of Special Education at the University of Maryland (UM)
offers a Master's program to prepare special education teachers to provide
a range of services to students with Autism Spectrum Disorders. At UM,
instructional content and professional preparation are provided to enable
graduates to work as a teacher, educational team leader, and advocate.
Students will have the opportunity to learn from leaders in research and
teaching in Special Education as well as work hands-on with individuals
with ASD from diverse backgrounds.
Depending on professional goals, entering students may select one of the
following Master's degree options:

The 30 credit hour Master's of Education degree (MEd)
or Master’s of Arts (MA) program designed for those already
certified in Special Education and wishing to specialize in ASD/severe
disabilities. |

The Master’s of Education teacher certification
program in severe disabilities, 45-60 credit hours (depending on prior
background), for students who are not certified in special education
but wish to pursue certification in special education and earn a master’s
degree. Undergraduate work can be in any area. |
