Master's Program:
Secondary Special Education and Transition Services

The Department of Special Education at the University of Maryland (UMD) offers a Master's program to prepare special education teachers to provide a range of services to secondary students with high incidence disabilities. At UMD, instructional content and professional preparation are provided to enable graduates to work as middle or high school special education teachers, instructional support specialists, transition specialists, and advocates.

Depending on professional goals, entering students may select one of the following Master's degree options:

The 36 credit hour Master's degree (M.A. or M.Ed.) program designed for those who are certified in special education and wish to specialize in secondary special education and/or transition services.

The 45-60 credit hour Master's degree (M.Ed.) for students who wish to pursue secondary special education certification and earn their master's degree.
