Graduate Student Association

Greetings EDHI and EDPS Graduate Students

The members of the Graduate Student Association (GSA) Executive Board look forward to representing you for the 2007-2008 academic year. The formation of two new departments marks an exciting time in the College of Education, but also raises questions and concerns about how the recent changes affect students. The GSA acts as one governing body in order to best meet your needs during the transition.

The purpose of the GSA is to advocate for you as graduate students. The board members represent students within the two departments to the faculty, the University Graduate Student Government, and across campus. To learn more about the GSA, read the by-laws.

If you have questions, issues, or concerns you would like addressed in your department or the wider campus community, contact GSA President Caitlin Haugen at chaugen@umd.edu.

The GSA plans scholarly and social activities throughout the school year. The events are designed to develop our academic endeavors and to foster a sense of community among EDPS and EDHI students. We invite you to GSA attend events. Click here for the 2007-2008 Calendar of Events.

How to get involved:

Attend or Plan an Event: All students are welcome to attend GSA events. If you have an idea for an event or you would like to plan an event, contact Dierdre Williams Dierdre Williams, the Social Activities and Community Service Chair at dwillia3@umd.edu

Join the Listserv: The Education Policy Community Listserv is an excellent resource for students. The listserv provides a forum for students to discuss important issues and post announcements. Click on the link above for information about how to subscribe.

Run for Office: Every year the GSA holds elections for all the executive board member positions. If you have questions about the a position, contact the board member directly or email GSA Vice-President JaNay Queen at jyqueen@umd.edu. We look forward to working with you in the upcoming year.
