Graduate Studies in Art Education
The Art Education Masters Program is expressly designed for art educators who want to further develop their scholarly, artistic and leadership capabilities in both art education and the studio arts. The program places great emphasis on individual growth while exploring new approaches to researching, creating, teaching and assessing visual art contents and processes. Moreover, the program focuses on the professional development needs of today's K-12 art specialists by providing opportunities that promote growth and enhance skill in:

  • Conducting meaningful research based on the latest inquiry and best practice methodologies
  • Providing settings which foster a variety of creative behaviors
  • Developing curriculum that highlights reading, writing, critical thinking and problem solving
  • Planning and executing education in the arts for today's population of diverse and special learners
  • Using a variety of technologies in and across the art content areas.

Students may take courses that focus on the arts in education as well as a concentration in an art area of their choice. The following options are available: M.A. with thesis and M.A. without thesis, M.Ed. option.

Minimum - 30 credits beyond bachelor's degree

*Elective courses can be taken in Art Studio, Art History, Computer Graphics/Science, Human Development, Special Education or Foundations depending on the special interests of the stuent. All electives must have the final approval of the candidate's Art Education academic advisor.
