Introduction:

This on-line lesson was developed as part of a group assignment for EDCI 385 - Computers for Teachers course at the University of Maryland College Park.
Content Area and Grade Level:
This Geology/Earth Science lesson is recommended for students in 5th through 8th grades and involves Geography as well as Language Arts.
Lesson Plan Criteria

I.   Objectives:

The students will access the webquest and navigate the project.  The students will be able to understand the various aspects of volcanoes.
II.  Matching Objectives to Computer Functions:
The project is on-line and provides guided information and links to complete the activity.
III. Problem the Students Investigate:
Given the Think Sheet, the students will use the on-line lesson to answer the questions.
IV.  Planning Information Manipulation:
Students will print out the Vocabulary List and the Think Sheet to aide them in their search for information. The students will transform the information they find onto the Think Sheet.
V.   Planning the Results:
The students will complete the Think Sheet.
VI.  Plan Activities While Using the Computer:
The students will complete the Webquest.  Afterwards, they can formulate  questions to ask a Volcanologist, take a virtual field trip, or take the Volcano World kid quiz.
VII. Plan Activities Prior to Using the Computer:
Go to an on-line Webquest lesson and practice navigating a Webquest.
VIII.Plan After Using the Computer:
Have students conduct additional searches other volcano sites.
IX.  Plan Support Activities:
Classroom discussions and building volcano models.
X.   Plan Assessment:
The quality and thoroughness of the answers the students provide on the Think Sheet, as well as their participation in the classroom discussions.
Conclusion:
This lesson is designed to enhance learning about volcanoes from the viewpoint of both the beauty and destruction capabilities of these majestic land formations.
