Websites for Students

Yahooligans
http://www.yahooligans.com/

This site is brought to you from the people who created Yahoo!, one of the first and most popular directories.  Yahooligans is specifically designed for kids.  Subject matter is divided into eight subject groups, which opens up new pages where research parameters can be refined.  Yahooligans also allows keyword searches as well.

In the classroom, this becomes a valuable tool for student research.  This site is designed and laid out for kids.  For a teacher, Yahooligans offers the added assurance that children will be searching a directory especially created for children, not adults.  Research can be done through this web site without the need of the teacher monitoring the web site selections for questionable or adult content.

Classroom Net
http://www.classroom.net/

This web site was designed to be a "homebase" to Kindergarden through 12 grade students across the world.  On this site you can also order products which include newsletters, videos, books, training systems, and conferences.  The items that you can order from the site are extremely useful and can be hard to find otherwise.  The conferences link can also be a great link as well.  You can have conferences with other teachers across the globe and classrooms can talk to other classrooms too.

4 Kids
http://www.4kids.org/

This site will be able to help teachers to help students get to good educational sites on the web.
It takes students to sites that have been reviewed and judged to be good sites for students to visit.

Useekufind
http://www.useekufind.com/tproject.htm

This is a great web site for teachers and students.  For students and parents there is a link to the yahoo search engine for 8 to 14 year olds.  This search engine is sensored for the students safety and the parents peace of mind.  For us college students it provides and excellent source for research papers and projects that can be used as a reference.

Net Quest
http://www.net-quest.com/~nachos/

This web site provides links for students who are seeking extra help or practice to another sort of virtual school over the internet.  On this site I especially liked the social studies link which provides an excellent site for maps.  There are links to four map collections.  The National Geographic map collection and the Perry-Castaneda Map Collection just to name two.  It also has a Loney Planet Travel Guide where you can choose a country and take a "virtual trip" and get basic country information.

iTools--Dictionary and Thesaurus
http://www.iTools.com/research-it/research-it.html/

This website is a dictionary/ thesaurus and prononciation key and includes a word of the day.  This website would be very helpful for both students and teachers.  It will also enhance the students vocabulary skills.
