Introduction

There’s a dolphin stranded at Ocean City!!
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, must find out how it was stranded.
First, you must gather information about dolphins to help save the dolphin.  As always, should you or any member of your team get caught, the secretary of the state will disavow any knowledge of your project.

The Task

You must answer serious of questions to come up with reasons for the dolphin being stranded.  As a group, you must present one reason for the stranded dolphin to the rest of the class.  Be ready to support your reason with facts found about dolphins.  Also, what can you do to help prevent dolphins being stranded?

The Process

1. First, meet your team member (assigned to you by the teacher) then discuss any prior             knowledge and facts about dolphins.

2.Click on “think sheet” which will connect you to some questions that will guide you in collecting your information.

3. Each member must choose one area of expertise and find information on that area.  The areas of expertise are physiology (two members), communication, human interaction and reproduction (all members).

4. After all the information is gathered, share your area of expertise with your group member. Remember, the more you know about dolphins, the more helpful you’ll be in helping the stranded dolphin.

5. Then, go over “think sheet 2” to speculate the causes behind the stranded dolphin at Ocean City.

6. Choose one cause of the dolphin being stranded and back it up with facts gathered.  Give solutions to helping the stranded dolphins too.

7. Present your causation and solution to the class.

8. Then, as a class, you could take a vote to sponsor a dolphin or not.

Evaluation

You will be graded on the information that’s collected within your expertise area for your individual efforts.  Also, part of your grade will be the presentation in front of the class.  Your team members will also evaluate you on your participation.

Conclusion

You now know some of the causation of stranded dolphins and how you might help them.  What can you do today to prevent dolphins being stranded?
