University of Maryland College of Education Programs Excel in 2018 U.S. News Rankings

COLLEGE PARK, MD (March, 2017) – In the U.S. News & World Report 2018 rankings, released this week, the University of Maryland College of Education shined amongst the nation’s graduate programs in education. U.S. News ranked more than 170 education schools and the UMD College of Education’s programs placed highly amongst its peer institutions.

“The College of Education’s success reflects the strength of our faculty and student body, our diverse programs that adhere to high standards, and our commitment to research that deepens understanding of teaching and learning,” Dean Donna Wiseman said.

For the eighteenth consecutive year, the College of Education’s Student Counseling and Personnel Services program remains the nation’s best counseling program, a feat unmatched by any other University of Maryland graduate program.

The College of Education’s top-placed graduate programs received the following rankings:

  • Student Counseling and Personnel Services (#1)
  • Educational Psychology (#5)
  • Higher Education Administration (#10)
  • Special Education (#11)
  • Curriculum and Instruction (#12)
  • Secondary Teacher Education (#13)
  • Elementary Teacher Education (#17)
  • Education Policy (#19)

The College’s Curriculum and Instruction and Special Education programs both moved up two spots from the 2017 rankings, and the Secondary Teacher Education progressed one spot from last year to achieve a 13th place ranking.

The College of Education as a whole placed 32nd amongst all the graduate programs in education.
