The Center for the Study of Education Policy and Human Values (known as the International Center for Transcultural Education) is founded and directed by Barbara Finkelstein. It serves as an organizing center for research, education, and service activities concerning important ethical and political issues in education.

Human Development associate professor Charles Flatter oversees the development of an award-winning television program, Footsteps
. The program airs on national television in January. It is funded by the U.S. Department of Education in an effort to help parents with parenting issues. Dr. Flatter also serves for several decades as a consultant to the Children's Television Workshop, producers of public television programs such as Sesame Street.

is honored with the university's Distinguished Scholar-Teacher Award.

Human Development faculty member David Kyle dies on June 20 of a heart attack. A Blue Colorado Spruce tree is planted near the north entrance to the Benjamin Building in memory of Professor Kyle during a ceremony on October 27.
